Alex Kasman's Software

Alex Kasman's Software Distribution Page

The main point of this page is to distribute the following packages and programs:

  • ASTeX -- This is a package of sophisticated TeX definitions and Unix shell scripts for producing books and journals. Although anyone will probably find it useful, it is specifically intended for professional use. At present, it is being used for the pubilcation of several journals and several textbooks. If you know something about TeX, check it out and let me know what you think.
  • Reminder is a set of two Unix shell scripts which keep track of important events for you. The main use would be as part of your .login so that you are "reminded" every time you log-in. To use these files, make them "executable" (i.e. chmod) and type "reminder help" for instructions.
  • FORMLET is another LaTeX package. This one is for making "form letters" (or form anything else). That is, you can type a document with "blanks" in it, and the blanks are filled in with data from a list. Several "special" features also exist, such as an "if" statement. An example is provided.
  • The JavaBabyAger is a Java script which can be inserted into your Web documents. It checks the current date and automatically computes the age of a baby (or whatever) and prints it on the page.
  • I wrote the Perl scripts which provide information about mathematics research talks in the Boston area at this location. Note: my e-mail address is kasman@math.cofc.edu. For any other information, please look to my home page.
