Hi,

With this email message I want to emphasize and elaborate on the homework policy.

Your homework assignment (as specified on the course web page) is due at the end of discussion section, i.e., 1:50 on Monday. You must hand your homework assignment directly to me. Papers placed in my mailbox tend to get "lost," so I do not accept papers that are placed in my mailbox or slipped under my office door.

Each assignment must come with the "official" cover sheet. There are directions regarding the format of the homework on that cover sheet. Papers that do not conform to those specifications will not be graded. There is a stapler in Room 142 in MCS.

You are required to submit all homework assignments. However, given the length of the semester and the number of assignments involved, I realize that something important may come up at some point. You might get sick. You might have four exams all on the same day. Your dog might eat your homework. In all cases I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE HOMEWORK.

To handle these situations, I have a no-questions-asked policy where you will be excused from one missed homework assignment as long as you have a good reason. In this case you do NOT need to provide an explanation of why your paper is missing to me.

I suggest that you do not abuse this policy. In particular I will not excuse anyone from two missed assignments no matter what the reason is. For example, if you miss one assignment early in the semester for any reason, and then later in the semester you get sick or have to go home for a family emergency, you will receive a grade of 0/10 for one of the those two assignments.

If you have any questions about the homework policy in this course, please ask at the start of class tomorrow.

See you then,
