o MA 124 Special Announcements

EXAM THREE will be held on THURSDAY, MAY 1, from 8 - 9:30 AM, in our classroom STO B50.

THERE WILL BE NO FINAL EXAM ON MAY 3 !. THE ABOVE IS OUR LAST EXAM.

The exam will be on Sections 8.5 - 8.9, namely the topic of power series. Note however that testing the endpoints of convergence of power series requires knowledge of material in the earlier sections of Chapter 8.

You are allowed to use a calculator and you are also allowed to bring a 3 inch by 5 inch index card (or equal size piece of paper) with anything you like written on it (i.e. formulas you may have trouble remembering). Any larger size card or piece of paper will NOT be allowed and will be considered as cheating. You are also responsible for your own card. You cannot use someone elses card during the exam.

Any formula required for a problem similar to those assigned in 5.8: Integration Using Tables and Computer Algebra Systems would be given to you on the exam. Thus there is no need to clutter your index card with formulas from the back of the book.

You will NOT be given credit for the answer to any indefinite integral that was obtained from a formula you wrote on your index card or that you obtained on your calculator when you were expected to do that integral using techniques that we learned.

A sample exam from last semester is on my webpage. This will give you an idea of a typical length of an exam. The following problems from the exams below can be done for additional practice.

  • Exam Two: Question 7.
  • Exam Three: Questions 1 - 5. (NOT Question 6).

If you do the above problems I recommend first trying to do them on your own. Then you can check your answer under the Answers (brief) webpage. If your answer doesn't match you should ask someone to explain it to you.

It would be a VERY BIG MISTAKE to study only these problems since the problems on our exam will most likely NOT be identical to these problems.
