FREE !! and EVERYONE WELCOME !!

I am going to be leading a Spring Hike at Middlesex Fells, located just Nouth of Boston. Middlesex Fells is accessible by T (approx. 10 minute hike from Orange Grove T-stop on Orange Line). We will be travelling there together by T from West Campus.

We will be hiking the Rock Circuit Trail, which is 3.7 miles in length. It is a challenging hike, with some climbing up and down on rocks. There are many scenic views back to Boston and of Northern Suburbs.

There will also be a Geocache Hunt, which will be an introduction to the sport of GEOCACHING.

In this sport people hide boxes of "treasures" and put the GPS coordinates on the web. The goal is to find these ! These are typically plastic containers containing a log book to record one's find and a variety of small trinkets as prizes.

YOU DO NOT NEED A GPS UNIT TO PARTICIPATE.

The real fun of geocaching is the fun of trying to find them. If you want to take an item you should leave an item, so if you think you might want to take something bring a small item. Items I have seen in caches include: CDs, games, pictures, keychains, etc. Any small item is OK to leave however one should NOT put food in a geocache. However as I said the real fun is finding them so it is not necessary to bring anything if you just want to have fun finding it (which is what I typically do).

I will bring my GPS and if you have one you are welcome to bring it. For the purposes of the Geocache hunt, we will break up into equal size "teams" and we will find a few geocaches once we are in the general vicinity of them. The contest will only begin once we are in the general vicinity of the geocache.

You can come on the hike and not participate in the Geocache Hunt, however the geocaches are just off our hiking route, so it is not possible to just participate in the Geocache Hunt. The Geocache hunt will be a brief break from our actual hike.

THERE WILL BE PRIZES FOR THE TEAM THAT FINDS THE MOST DIFFICULT GEOCACHE.

The prizes will be FREE MOVIE PASSES to a movie of your choice.

    You should bring:

  • Money for the T.
  • Shoes suitable for hiking.
  • Lunch food and Water.

You should meet outside of the Agannis Arena before 9 AM, which is when we will depart. If you wish to travel by T on your own and meet us at the Orange Grove T-stop you can also do that, but email me your name so that we can look for you there and agree on a time.
