An Outline of the Philosophy of Science in the Twentieth Century
Prof. dr. Gregg Jaeger Boston University, Boston, MA 02215 USA
Introductory paragraph:
"In this century, the philosophy of science reached a new level of prominence, to the extant that central issues of philosophy proper, such as the debate between Realism and Antirealism, centered on it. This is not the result of some simple turn of philosophical fashion, but rather a raction to the prime position of science in modern life. The philosophy of science has become not only an investigation of philosophical questions in the context of science, but also a science of science itself - that is, an analysis of scientific methodology. My central aim here is to get to the heart of this branch of philosophy as it is now, for the benefit of those wishing to contemplate it either for the first time or from a very broad perspective."
