The Ito Formalism and Stochastic Modifications of Quantum Dynamics

It is shown in this paper how the Ito formalism for handling stochastic differential equations can be used to analyze models for the stochastic modification of quantum dynamics which have been proposed to solve the quantum measurement problem. This formalism allows the systematic computation of those quantities that are of most physical interest. The procedures mentioned are illustrated by the analysis of two models due to Pearle and Gisin which, though unsatisfactory as solutions of the quantum measurement problem, nevertheless help clarify the conceptual framework of stochastic modifications of quantum dynamics. Some of the previously known results are rigorously derived for the first time.
