NEWS:

long time no see.
sorry about that!
OUR RECORD IS OUT!
it took six months to make.
it is called "plan b is for suckers".
it sounds great, and thanks to
the art team of jasmine hromjak
and paul jeffery, it looks great too.
go to the
losing blueprint for more info!

hey, here's a really awesome review of our performance at
our last show at PAs (see below for more info about this awesome
night). the review is from the noise and was written by
richie hoss. we're quite pleased with it:
Score One for the Fat Kid reminds me of four horses quartering a person.
This band is
four guys going in opposite directions that kills whatever they touch.
This is just
terrible. It sounds like they're killing cats. The bass player thinks he is ina hardcore band with his growling, shouting, bloody vocals. He can't sing.
The electric guitar player thinks he is the next coming of Weezer.
He can't sing. The acoustic guitar player thinks every song is actually
a five-minute solo these other two bastards keep trying to sing over.
He can't sing. The drummer is more interested in whatever is
happening outside the window. I can only assume that he can't sing.
Listen guys, you've obviously decided that you're going to be a
really bad emo band so don't fight it. You won't be the first
or the last. I suppose the most telling sign for this band is the fact
that when they perform, the friends they brought decide to stand outside.

we played a show at PAs in somerville again last friday.
i suspect that we will not be performing at said venue any longer.
not that we did anything wrong,
but it was a cursed evening from the start.
and by "cursed" i mean "hilarious".
the primary hilarious thing was that last band of the night,
"the human shield"
(a band which consists of a drummer,
an alabaman,
a leopard print tight wearing communist,
a wwII era german soldier,
and peter pan)
kind of had a melt down when the drummer threw his whole
drum set through the air and into one of the monitors.
it was amazing.
it had upward arc.
then the guy who put on the show totally threw this drummer guy
out in the street,
all the while the rest of the band played on.
then, the owner and the bouncer got involved.
there was a LOT of yelling.
for example:
"i can't believe we're being treating like this, we're the best band ever to play here."
and
"it reflects badly on your character to be in a band with that dude."
or, if you please,
"you're finished in this town, i can tell you that."
it was really great.
we got the hell out of there as fast as we could.
laughing all the way.
so, mike was wearing a "spike's hot dogs" t-shirt last night.
he got it for free because he ate eight (8) chili dogs.
holy shit!
we're making our triumphant return to gloucester, massachusetts tomorrow.
i, for one, am TOTALLY PSYCHED!
10/29/2002
wow, that month of october really blew by!
as stated previously, we've been recording an album.
its tentatively titled "the wilder side of dan wilder".
okay, that's a lie---we don't have a title yet.
we've got most of the instruments recorded,
none of the vocals.
should all be done come turkey day!
we've got some shows coming up.
the most exciting is the
losing blueprint compilation
concert.
its at the international church of chili-dogs (ICC),
right here in allston mass, on november 16.
lots of great bands:
fiesel, nationale blue, method and result, and tons more!
see you soon!
9/16/2002
today's news is written by andy.
you can tell it wasn't written by me, because it has "capital letters".
i don't see what's so "capital" about big letters.
anyway, here's what andy's got to say!
Gurblagh! Hello fat kid acolytes. We have acquired a stinky, hot,
lemon-lit practice space in Allston, replete with drum loft and
inspirational pic of our nation's 34th president, the inanely sexy Dwight
D. Eisenhower! We are also gearing up to record with the venerable Chris
Moylan later this month for a Losing Blueprint release later this fall.
Also, Andy and Dan turn 25 this month as well, further ensuring that the
Fat Kid is indeed "halfway done." Alas, Andy's girlfriend moved to
California, so the nookie index of the band drops even further to 50%!
(Though the possibility of intraband nookie between Andy and Dan may
allow this number to fluctuate.) Otherwise, all is well! Buy the new
Fiesel record, it's surely better than anything we could do!
8/19/2002
we had a surprise show.
over at the choppin' block in mission hill.
came up at the last minute.
mission hill is kind of sketchy, to put it mildly.
had a good time, though.
rocked it in worcester on sunday.
it was good.
7/26/2002
we played our 19th show last night, in danbury connecticutt.
the venue, the empress ballroom, was rather odd.
at one point in history, it was the backstage area for some sort of theater.
the ceiling was maybe sixty or seventy feet high.
needless to say, the acoustics were really something else.
the stage was also very high, like five feet!
apparently prince was at the show, and he wrote us an email about it:
"u guys kicked ass at empress,
i was there in my yellow met hat,
maybe u saw me,
anyways, the guitarist who jumped off the stage
and fell on the ground was awesome,
u guys rocked!"
prince signed the email "chris, westchester ny",
but you can tell its from the great purple one by the way he spells.
though its probably obvious if you've ever seen us play,
the "guitarist who jumped off the stage" was mike.
he IS awsome.
7/15/2002
saying the beatles are the greatest band ever is like saying
judy bloom is the greatest author of all time.
7/12/2002
this week i've met people named "charlie" and "oliver".
suprisingly, both were under the age of 75.
we borrowed an amp head from oliver at the show at skybar on wednesday.
thanks olly!
the highlight of skybar, for me, is the free budweiser you get.
i love being the only drinker in our band!
that way i can appear generous and give away some of our free beer!
so, when i sing at a concert, i don't like looking out at the audience.
that's because i'm a nervous kind of guy.
now i've developed a new trick where i stare at the mic while singing.
it makes me look cross-eyed.
that's cool, because its better to look cross-eyed than to look like
a close-eyed sensitive sissy!
7/2/2002
we rocked a bbq place in malden the other day.
i was hoping to get a free fried catfish, but i couldn't even get a free budweiser!
after the show, as i was pedaling home from mike's house, i got in an accident.
i hit a pothole and went over my handlebars.
coincidentally, andy was driving by went it happened.
andy's a good friend because he didn't run me over!
also he stopped to check to see if i was okay.
bruised scraped and sore, but otherwise, i'm okay!
what fun!
6/13/2002
we celebrated mike's birthday yesterday.
he's twenty-five years old.
or, as we like to call it, "half-way done."
happy birthday mike!
6/10/2002
so we played a show in haverhill, mass on saturday.
for some reason, they told us to stop after about five songs.
it was strange stuff.
one of the other bands that played consisted of forty year old men playing metal.
HEAVY metal.
not nu-metal or even hardcore.
flying v guitar and everything.
i hope i'm still rocking when i'm forty.
also, i'm told that there are a number of people who "check this site everyday".
morons!
5/15/2002
i like the following things that mike despises:
new wave, mod night, andrew w.k. and jar jar binks.
i'm seeing star wars tonight, and i can't wait for jar jar's big moment.
what's this got to do with the fat kid? nothing!
but
we did play a show over at mike's house last friday.
really, it was a mess---broken strings, late andys, that sort of thing.
by the time we got our shit together, though, we did a great job, i think.
hopefully we'll do that sort of thing again, and maybe i'll announce it here
before it happens!
also---new shows coming up.
one in malden and one in somerville for those of you in the metro boston area.
unlike a lot of our shows, i think these one's will actually transpire!
see you soon!
4/30/2002
so, the content of the site has been modified a lot.
more photos, more funny stories, that sort of thing.
the comp on andy's label,
losing blueprint, is nearly complete.
our song is called "paper autogyro," and is pretty cool.
follow the above link for more on that shit.
4/12/2002
hey that show in gloucester is today!
oops!
4/2/2002
after a brief hiatus, we've got some new shows coming up.
everything's a bit tentative on most of them.
but hopefully they'll happen!
check out the shows page for more info.
we've gotten some more stuff in the museum too.
dan, however, chooses to throw down the gauntlet!
i quote,
"It's nice that we're getting diversified
materials for the museum section of our site.
Kind of disappointed we haven't gotten any prose, though.
I'd like to see a short story, or maybe
a persuasive essay."
fish tacos to the first person to send in a persuasive essay!
3/6/2002
gloucester: the show was excellent.
we were down an andy, so we were way less good and more punk rock.
still, the show itself was awesome. to quote dan:
"it was dusty. and cold.
and the cutest girl in canada was there.
there was an overabundance of meat."
great bands in the world include:
allston-brighton's thumb's up, montreal's riverside diary and gloucester's new year.
tt's: did you know that some canadians
refer to a big joint of marijuana as a garler?
we didn't, but then we played with this band from ontario (garler, they're called)
and they told that to us. they played some blues rock. weird!
not the most well-attended fat kid show.
everyone there, however, was great.
from the canadians to the sound guy to our
friends in the audience.
also, we played really great, if i may say so!
for the record, andy is not from canada.
2/28/2002
friday's show at the x-haus isn't happening!
2/26/2002
salem: really it was a great time.
took a fair bit of doing to get there,
as we had to contend with traffic, family emergencies, diarrhea, the flu and more.
but we got there and did a nice job.
drexel and nakatomi plaza are amazing bands---go see them!
2/20/2002
gloucester house report: its really great to play in gloucester.
i feel a bit old, but so many kids come to shows, and they're pretty good kids.
they dance, and it rules. andy said it was one of the most rewarding show experiences of his life.
he's played A LOT of shows.
also we recorded some stuff.
recording is not nearly as much fun as playing shows.
still, we had a nice time.
there's a lot of work left to be done on that recording...
henceforth upcoming shows will be announced here.
2/12/2002
skybar report: well, its great to play with moonshot anyway...
more upcoming shows:
tt the bear's---cambridge---massachusetts---3/5/2002
beckett's---allston---massachusetts---3/??/2002
the shed---gloucester---massachusetts---3/??/2002
2/7/2002
february is "fat kid" month.
three shows this month (see above).
i don't think i've ever been in a band that played three shows
in the same month.
i'm certain the other guys have been.
needless to say, i'm thrilled.
also we're gonna do some recording, with our friends the sherman boys.
(nice guys, even if they kicked me out of their band, but didn't tell me.)
some stuff for a compilation.
more info when there's more info.
1/16/2002
henceforth we're naming our shows.
the next one will be called:
"score one for the fat kid introduces THE CREEPY CLAW."
its at
the artspace---gloucester---massachusetts---1/18/2002
other upcoming shows:
"deathbeast and the man who folded himself" at
the skybar---somerville---massachusetts---2/7/2002 (with moonshot)

some vfw---salem---massachusetts---2/23/2002 (with drexel)
12/13/2001
the show in lawrence is not happening.
gloucester was fun, though not well-attended.
the guy who wrote chud likes our band.
11/27/2001
spacetime coordinates for next live fat kid performances:
the artspace---gloucester---massachusetts---12/13/2001
hope to see you there!
11/19/2001
the show at bard was successful.
only minor injuries: blood blisters, bonked heads,
and mike ate too much chili.
bard is lousy with mods.
11/13/2001
this site goes online.
the fat kid performs this saturday, 11/17/2001,
this time at bard college in annandale-on-hudson, new york.
