A Learning Assistant is something like a teaching assistant, though we were kept strictly apart from the grading aspect of the course. Our entire purpose was to help students; you might call us tutors, though that term was frowned upon. We ran hour-long "strategies" sections twice a week during the course of the school year, helping students learn course material and prepare for upcoming exams.
At California State University at Fullerton, the LARC program ran classes for calculus, biology, chemistry, European history, geology, physics, and many other classes. At one point or another, I was a Learning Assistant for all but the last two. I also taught a mathematics refresher course, helping students prepare for the Entry Level Mathematics examination required of all incoming students.
