Syllabus (in pdf format)

Assignment 1 due Tuesday May 25. Here, as promised, is the solution to assignment 1. The cable for my scanner was not available so I latexed it for your viewing pleasure. Because these were typed from the original solutions errors may have creeped in. Please email me if you find any.

Assignment 2 due Thursday May 27. Solutions with the same caveats as above.

Assignment 3 due Thursday June 3. Solutions.

Solutions for the first test.

Assignment 4 due Tuesday June 8. Solutions.

From the results of the first test, its clear that I deserve some blame for not being clear enough about linear transformations and not giving people enough time to digest them. Thus I'm giving the option of having the final exam worth more in place of the first test. Details are on the sheet with assignment 5.

Assignment 5 due Thursday June 10. Solutions.

Test 2 will cover sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 up to but not including "Inverses of Partitioned matrices", 2.8, 2.9, 3.1, 3.2, and the part of 3.3 called "Determinants as area or volume".

Assignment 6 due Thursday June 17. Solutions.

Solutions for the second test.

Assignment 7 due Tuesday June 22. Solutions.

Assignment 8 due Thursday June 24. Solutions.

Some notes concerning the final exam which will be held on the last day of classes.

Important: as noted above my explanation of the matrix of a quadratic form was incorrect. Here is a correction. You are responsible for the correct definition for the final exam.
