I feel your lecture are really helpful in my studies, but I feel you need to slow down just a bit when writing notes on the board. The notes are on the board so fast that I have so little time to copy it. If you could just slow down a bit, the lectures would be so much easier to understand.
Thank you very much.
Hi. I just think you should talk a little louder, and that you should write a lot bigger. I would really appreciate it if you can do that. Bye.
Several people have written me about my lecturing style. Because our class is so large (130-ish students), I understand that I need to write larger and to speak louder and I've been trying to do just that. I've also started keeping the microphone on (the one on the podium) during lecture -- I hope that this helps. As for speaking and writing too quickly, please keep in mind that there is a great deal of material that we need to cover during this course and not as much time as I would like to cover it so it is difficult to slow down too much. On the other hand, I know that I tend to speak and write quickly in general so I'm trying very hard to slow down -- if you don't understand what I'm saying or if I'm writing too fast, please tell me during class! Thanks.
I love mathematics and calculus really appeals to me because it involves theory more than mechanics. The class seems great, although I think that the pace could be brought up a little. Almost everybody in the class has already taken calculus and we agree that it moves a little slow. Otherwise, everything is great!!!!
Thanks
I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying the material. While it may be true that most people have taken Calculus before and hence may find the material familiar especially in the beginning, there are some who have not taken Calculus before and since this course is, after all, touted as a first Calculus course, it is necessary for me to go over basic concepts for them. In addition, many people even those who have taken Calculus before have also found hearing the material again to be useful. Things should pick up as the semester progresses.
Hi. I just wanted to ask whether you will be giving us an extra credit assignment at the end of the semester or not. Thank you.
No, I am not planning to give any extra credit assignments.
I thought that the pretest was really helpful for me, and gave me a good overall idea of what was going to be on the test. I also really liked the fact that you went over it with us during a review session. The fact that it was optional was especially nice because I've found that a lot of people in discussion want to get out as quickly as possible and I don't always have a chance to have all my questions answered. Do you think that you will give us pretests and go over them for all the tests? I know that the material won't exactly be getting any easier!
Rest assured, I am planning to give practice exams and review sessions before each exam. Thanks for your input. It's nice to know that the extra effort is not going to waste!
The exam is so late--is there anything that can be done about that..it's the last day of exams and late in the day...thank you in advance for your consideration.
Unfortunately, the time of the exam is beyond my control -- it is set by the BU administration. I agree that the exam is very late and, believe me, I would also prefer it if it were earlier, too.
