The Class' emphasis will be on developing ANALYTICAL SKILLS of students. The course OUTLINE is below. Reading and understanding of the text in the respective section goes each time WITHOUT SAYING as part of the HW. HW problems are assigned daily, you are encouraged to turn them in (though you are not getting formal credit for doing so). Test problems are similar to those from the text (or to the examples presented by the Instructor). The students are expected to learn (with an ability to apply to solve test problems) different analytic, algebraic, and trigonometric notions as well as to get a better training in logical thinking. The emphasis is on DOING mathematics rather than duplicating mathematics through extensive drill.
Grading Policy:
Attendance is 1 unit worth, Midterm (the date to be specified) is 2 units, the FINAL (the last day of classes, June 27) is cumulative, it is 4 units worth. The lowest of these 7 grades will be dropped. The average of the remaining 6 will determine the grade for the class.
The course covers Chapters 1 through 6, 8 (part of), 11, 12
The first three chapters will be reviewed very quickly.
