The book "Topics in Biostatistics" (edited by Walter Ambrosius) has been published July 2007. It contains a chapter on basics Bayesian methods coauthored by me and David van Dyk of UC Irvine. The book can be purchased from amazon.com.

I was co-organizer (along with Harvard School of Public Health Senior Research Scientist Scott Evans) of the conference, "2007 New England Symposium on Statistics in Sports", which was held at the Harvard University Science Center on Saturday, September 29, 2007.
An article about the conference appeared in the October 4, 2007 issue of the Harvard Gazette.
The Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports has published the proceedings of the conference in its April 2008 issue.

I presented Separating the best from the rest: Scheduling a tournament as a Bayesian locally-optimal design at 5:00pm on July 23, 2008 at the 9th World Conference of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis, held on Hamilton Island, Australia.

I presented Bayesian Locally-Optimal Design of Knockout Tournaments at 4:00pm on July 28, 2008, at the Department of Statistics, University of Auckland (New Zealand).

The paper "Posterior predictive p-values for detecting differential item functioning in IRT models" by me, Pradipta Seal, and Susan Eisen has been submitted for publication at a peer-reviewed journal.

Getting to know me!

Check out my vanity page where you can look at lots of pictures of me, my family and my friends. Actually, the pictures are mostly of me.

And speaking of vanity, I've posted some video clips in which I'm interviewed on TV, and performing magic tricks (the latter not shown on TV... yet).

I am currently the chairman of the U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) ratings committee. Here are some recent USCF ratings reports and other assorted ratings-related items.

My glicko ratings page (once www.glicko.com), which describes two rating systems I created, now resides on this site. You can also access it at www.glicko.net or www.glicko.org.

My research interests include Bayesian statistics, paired comparison models, and statistical methods applied to health services research. I've made some of my papers available on-line.

My musical interests include listening to eclectic rock music, playing piano, guitar and bass guitar, and songwriting. My music page currently contains several original songs, statistics song parodies (both recorded music and lyrics) and MIDI files I created.

I created a Macromedia Flash application for the game "Family Feud" for math undergraduates and grad students at Boston University. Feel free to try it out yourself.
