CAS MA 123
Calculus I
All Sections
Fall 2017 Textbook and
On-line Homework System

If you are unsure if MA123 is the right course for you, you should WAIT UNTIL YOUR FIRST LECTURE before you purchase anything.

Textbook: Briggs, Cochran, and Gillett: Calculus (Early Transcendentals, 2nd edition), Pearson, 2015.

On-line homework system: MyMathLab (You can access this course on MyMathLab at NO COST for 14 days without a passcode. After that, you will need a code. Therefore, a MyMathLab passcode is required eventually for all students.) Note that this code will be valid for you to use in MA124 and MA225 in Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 without additional payment. Your MyMathLab passcode gives you access to the ebooks for MA123, MA124, and MA225. Note: Internet retailers such as Amazon sell codes, but some buyers complain that the codes are invalid or have already been used.

There are two options available to you:

  1. An on-line version of the textbook comes with MyMathLab, but you must be connected to the internet to use it. If you feel that you do not need a paper textbook, then all you need is a MyMathLab passcode. MyMathLab passcodes are available from the MyMathLab web site and the BU Bookstore.
  2. We have negotiated a discounted price for a bundled version of the textbook along with a passcode for the on-line homework system. The bundle is available at the BU Bookstore. It includes a soft cover version of the textbook that is bundled with the MyMathLab passcode (ISBN 9781269986274). This bundle is available for $118.65. Do not purchase a used textbook unless you can get a good deal on a MyMathLab passcode separately.
