Homework Cover Sheet
-
webODEs:
I have been experimenting with an
"on-line" symbolic ODE
solver.
Please try it out and let me know what you think. Our
current license with the webMathematica folks only allows
for two users at the same time, so you may have to wait a
little while to get your answer.
-
MATLAB:
Now that we have DETools, we do not use MATLAB in MA 226 as much as in
prior semesters. However, some of my students who know MATLAB like to
use the dfield and pplane programs that were developed by
Professor John Polking of Rice University. Here is some related
information:
By the way, Professor
Polking's MATLAB routines are available from his web site, but the
versions that I have placed on ACS are modified to conform to our
notation, so I recommend your
going to ACS rather than downloading any files from Rice.
-
Java versions of dfield and pplane:
Professor John Polking of Rice University has also worked with his
colleagues to produce Java versions of dfield and pplane. The
advantage of the Java versions is that you can run them inside of a
Java-enabled browser. You do NOT need MATLAB! These Java
programs are available at
http://math.rice.edu/~dfield/dfpp.html.
If you decide to use these programs, make sure that you have an
appropriate version of Netscape or Explorer.
