Richard Mansfield has written a convenient Java-based phase plane plotter phase plane plotter which you can use directly inside of any Java-aware web brouser. You can also download it to compile and run on your computer.

MATLAB tool to help understand eigenvectors:

The MATLAB folks have developed a nice little tool to help with the conceptual understanding of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. It is called eigshow.m . To use it, you simply type eigshow at the MATLAB5 prompt after you have downloaded the file and placed it in an appropriate directory.

Ghostscript/Ghostview:

You may find it useful to install Ghostscript/Ghostview on your home computer so that you can view and print postscript documents. I have installed the Mac version on my Mac at home, and it works well. I do not have any direct experience with the PC version, but my students say that it works well.
