This subject is best learnt by doing problems. Homework will be
assigned each lecture and due before the lecture on the Wednesday in the
following week. A copy of what is assigned will appear on the web. It will be
good practice to complete a portion of the assignment after the corresponding
lecture. Please staple your homework. Late homeworks will not be accepted
without medical evidence. You are permitted and encouraged to consult with
other students on homework problems, but this should be done on a general
level of finding the solution of a problem. The final writeup of a problem set
must be done by each student individually. Quizzes will be short
in-class multiple choice tests that will also serve a diagnostic purpose. The
midterm exams will be October 3 and November 7 and the last exam will be
December 12. No makeups for exams will be given, and exams will not be
excused without medical evidence. Students should abide by the CAS academic
conduct code.
