Textbook and MyMathLab (MML) on-line Homework System

If you are unsure if MA124 is the right course for you, you should WAIT UNTIL AFTER YOUR FIRST LECTURE before you purchase anything.

Textbook: Briggs, Cochran, and Gillett: Calculus (Early Transcendentals, 2nd edition), Pearson, 2015.

MyMathLab (MML) on-line homework system and textbook (required)

  1. Register for an account with the publisher Pearson through their on-line MML system at www.mymathlab.com
  2. You have two options for purchasing the text and access to the MML system:

    (i) There is a bundled version of the on-line MML homework system, an electronic textbook, and soft-cover textbook. We have negotiated a discounted price of $118.65 for this bundled version. The bundle is available through the BU Bookstore Purchase of the bundle will give you a passcode for the MML website, through which you access the on-line homework system. Once the purchased MML code is used, you may not be able to get a full refund on your text. You can access MML for 14 days at no cost - see below. Note that you must be connected to the internet each time you use the on-line homework system.

(ii) You can purchase the passcode only, which gives you access to the electronic text, but without the soft-cover book directly from www.mymathlab.com for $99.95.

  3. If you have an MML account from taking MA123 here at Boston University during the past two years, then that account is still valid with the passcode that you used in MA123, and you do not need to purchase anything.
  4. The MML passcode that you receive for MA124 (or have from MA123) will also be valid for you to use in MA225 (Multivariable Calculus) in Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 without additional payment. Your MyMathLab passcode gives you access to the on-line textbooks for MA123, MA124, and MA225.
  5. Internet retailers such as Amazon sell MML pass codes, but some buyers complain that the pass codes are invalid or have already been used.
  6. Do not purchase a used textbook unless you can get a good deal on a usable MyMathLab passcode separately.
  7. (USEFUL INFO) You can access this course on MyMathLab at NO COST for 14 days without a passcode. After that, you will need a code. Therefore, a MyMathLab passcode is required eventually for all students.

COURSE CODES (on your MML account): There are separate MML course codes for each lecture section A1-A3. The course codes start with the last name of your professor and are then followed by 5 digits, without any spaces. Use the one that is for the lecture section you are registered in. The course codes will be given out by your professor during the first week of the semester.

ENTERING BU ID Number (on your MML Account): When setting up your MML account for MA124, you must enter your BU ID number.
