First exam: Oct. 12 (in class)
Second exam: Nov. 14 (in class)
Final exam: TBA

Logistical notes of interest:
- There will be two in-class midterms and a final exam.
- Homework problems will be assigned using Pearson's MyMathLab
platform and submmitted electronically. Late homeworks are not
accepted.
- There will be a written quiz on the homework in each discussion section. There will be no make-up quizzes, and the quiz must be taken in the discussion section that you are registered for.
- Your lowest two quiz and homework grades will be dropped.
- Incompletes are rarely given and only in serious situations, typically involving health problems which prevent a student from being able to complete their course work.
Make-up exams are only given in the case of serious illness (and
require a note from a doctor).
- All course information, including supplementary materials, will
be posted to the class Blackboard site. Please access MyMathLab through
the tab in Blackboard.
- A class forum will be maintained on Campuswire, and will be used
to post announcements and ask/answer questions
about homework and other matters. Students are
encouraged to participate and help their class-mates.
Tips for success:
- Come to class
- Complete all homework manually by hand before
submitting answers through MyMathlab. This will allow you to
identify gaps in understanding and develop real proficiency.
Course grading:
- Homework 20%
- Quizzes: 15%
- First hourly exam: 20%
- Second hourly exam: 20%
- Final exam: 25%
What this course is about:
This course is about calculus in three dimensions, so we'll start with
parametrizations (i.e. how to describe curves in 2 and 3-dimensional
space), vectors, lines, and planes in 3D. Then we cover partial derivatives, directional derivatives, multiple integration, cylindrical and spherical coordinates. The last and most interesting chapter covers the big theorems of integration of vector fields (Green's theorem and Stokes' theorem).
We will cover chapters 12-17 of the textbook.
Getting help:
- Both I and the TF will hold weekly office hours which you are
encouraged to attend. These office hours should be your primary
means of getting help.
- The math dept. tutoring room, located in CDS 261, which is staffed by graduate students during the day. Information about the tutoring room and its hours will be sent out next week.
- The Educational Resource Center (https://www.bu.edu/erc/) organizes peer tutoring and provides other academic support options.
