A reminder that the final exam for all students in Sections A1-A3 will be held 6:00-8:00 pm on Saturday, December 16, 2017.

Useful Information for Midterm Exam Number 1:

As announced in the syllabus, Midterm Exam Number 1 will be administered 6:30-8:30 pm on Thursday, October 19, for all students in MA124 A1, A2, and A3. You will have a total of 90 minutes to work on the exam questions. Please make sure that you bring your BU student ID card.

Midterm Exam Number 1 will cover Sections 6.1--6.5, 6.7, 6.9, 7.1--7.5, and 7.8. You are responsible for all of the homework, discussion, and quiz problems from these sections. Midterm Exam Number 1 is closed books, no crib sheets or notes, no calculators.

There will be eight problems, each worth between 10 and 15 points. Of these eight, four will be on techniques of integration, and four will be on applications of integrals. To give you a sample of the types of problems that will be on the midterm, we provide two items below: First, there is a link to click on for the pdf file with (38) Review Problems for Techniques of Integration. Second, there is a list of Review Problems for Applications of Integration. Together, these two items constitute the Sample Midterm Exam.

Please feel free to ask any of the MA 124 faculty or teaching fellows questions about these problems or their solutions.

The room assignments for Midterm Exam Number 1 are based on the number (B1,B2, ...) of your discussion section. You must go to the room assigned to the discussion section for which you are registered:

(Note that Chapters 6.6, 6.8, 6.10, 7.6 were omitted, and 7.7 will only be commented upon briefly in lectures during the week of Oct 16. Hence, this material will not be on the midterm.)

Midterm Exam Number 2 will cover Sections 7.8, 7.9 and Sections 8.2 - 8.5. You are responsible for all of the homework, discussion, and quiz problems from these sections. Midterm Exam Number 2 is closed books, no crib sheets or notes, no calculators.

There will be eight problems, each worth between 10 and 15 points. Of these eight, three will be on improper integrals and differential equations, and five will be on sequences and series. To give you a sample of the types of problems that will be on the midterm, we provide two items below: First, there is a link to click on for the pdf file with Review Problems for sequences and series. Second, there is a list of Review Problems on improper integrals and differential equations. Together, these two items constitute the Sample Midterm Exam.

Useful Information for Final Exam:

The Final Exam will be administered 6:00-8:00 pm on Saturday, December 16, for all students in MA124 A1, A2, and A3. You will have a total of 120 minutes to work on the exam questions. Please make sure that you bring your BU student ID card.

The Final Exam will cover the material on midterm exam number 1 (Sections 6.1--6.5, 6.7, 6.9, 7.1--7.5, 7.8.); the material on midterm exam number 2 (Sections 7.8, 7.9 and Sections 8.2 - 8.5); and the material from Sections 8.6 and 9.1-9.4 that we learned after midterm exam number 2. You are responsible for all of the homework, discussion, and quiz problems from these sections. The Final Exam is closed books, no crib sheets or notes, no calculators.

The Final Exam will consist of ten problems, each worth between 8 and 12 points. Of these ten, three will be on Taylor polynomials, power series, and Taylor series (Chapter 9) and seven will be on the material from Chapters 6-8.

To prepare for the questions on the material on Sections 8.6 and 9.1-9.4, we strongly recommend doing the following Review Problems: Section 8.6 (12, 17, 20, 24); Section 9.1 (15, 17, 23(a), 26(a), 27(a), 32(a), 38(a)); Section 9.2 (12, 17, 21, 29, 34, 35, 41, 44); Section 9.3 (9(a,c), 10(a,c), 19(a,c), 22(a), 69(a) use Taylor series) Section 9.4 (7, 10, 25, 26). To prepare for the material from Chapters 6-8, please use the materials above, which were posted for preparation for the two midterms.
