Welcome to the Mathematics Diagnostic Exam and information pages. The goal of this site is to help you decide which Mathematics and/or Statistics course is right for you. Of course, you must also consider your previous mathematics courses, your background in mathematics, the time since your last mathematics course, the difficulty of your other courses (hence the time available for you to dedicate to your mathematics/statistics class) and the requirements of your potential majors. All of this should be discussed with your advisor.
If you are considering taking a first course in Calculus or Statistics at Boston University and are unsure if you have the necessary prerequisites, you should take the Pre-Calculus Exam. The exam covers skills which your instructor will assume you have mastered. Information for the different Calculus 1 courses and different Statistics courses will be given with your score.
Engineering students please note: The College of Engineering administers its own diagnostic exam. Hence, Engineering students should not take this exam.
