Rigid Galois Representations

What Galois representations deform into p-adic families of automorphic representations? We discuss this question in reference to GL₂ over an imaginary quadratic field, and suggest the existence of a "new type of eigencurve". We also discuss the example of GL₃/Q. (Joint work with Barry Mazur.)
