Project topics

If you're looking for ideas for topics for the final paper/presentation, here are a few potential options. Alternatively, you could focus on an application area.

Independent components analysis.

Least-squares solutions for differential equations.

Stochastic differential equations.

Integral equations: types and basic theory.

Matched asymptotic expansions for ODEs.

Hamiltonian PDEs

Resources

"Linear Algebra Done Right" covers finite-dimensional vector spaces. You should be able to access it for free by the "access via your institution" link here.

Michael Chertkov and Colin Clark's lecture notes here include material on Fourier analysis, ordinary and partial differential equations, and the calculus of variations (and more!)

John Hunter's applied math notes here are good, and chapter 3 covers the calculus of variations.

John Hunter and Bruno Nachtergale's applied analysis notes here also cover operators, adjoints, Green's functions for differential equations, distributions and Fourier transforms, and the calculus of variations, all from a more analytic viewpoint.
