Viewing the Contents of Files on the Screen

To view the contents of a text file on the screen, use the more <filename> command. This program will display one page at a time on the terminal with a prompt at the bottom of the screen after each page of text. The prompt tells you what percentage of the file you have already seen. At the prompt, type the SPACE-BAR to see the next full page. To see only the next line, type the RETURN or ENTER key. To scroll back one page, use the b key. To quit out of the more program, use the q key. There are lots of other options to the more program. To see a short listing of them, type a ? at the more prompt. For example, to see the first page of a file called recipe.for.lasagna type:
math joe % more recipe.for.lasagna
RECIPE FOR LASAGNA
Lasagna Noodles
Mozzarella Cheese
Ricotta Cheese
Parmesan Cheese
Fresh Tomatoes
