  Title:
         On asymptotically good towers of
         algebraic geometry codes

Speaker:

          Caleb Shor (Boston University)
Abstract: Algebraic geometry codes were described in the early 1980s, and they have attracted interest because, with them, one can prove the existence of codes with good properties, namely minimum distance and dimension. To create these codes, one needs to find ''asymptotically good'' towers of curves over a finite field, which are towers of curves that have many points relative to the genus in every level. A lot of work has been done to find asymptotically good towers of curves, but less is known about the corresponding codes.
In this talk, we will see some asymptotically good towers of curves and also discuss how to explicitly construct codes from some of them.
