         Local Class Field Theory, and beyond

          Karen Acquista (Boston University)
Abstract: I will highlight some of the main points of local class field theory, focusing on the cohomological approach (as in Serre's book on local fields) and the Weil group. Then I will explain how to generalize the proofs to higher dimensions, where the theory has a few new features.
