An Introduction to Quantum Groups
|
Speaker: |
Abhijnan Rej (Boston University)
|
Abstract: |
In this talk, I will present an elementary introduction to Hopf algebras and quantum groups as defined by Drinfel'd. I will present several examples of quantum groups but focus mostly on q-deformed matrix groups. I will then move on to the elements of the C*- algebraic theory of compact quantum groups, mainly describing Woronowicz's construction of SU_q(2). Lastly, by introducing a suitable notion of isomorphism for quantum groups, I will describe a classification theorem for SU_q(2) due to Wang and talk about its consequence for noncommutative geometry a la Connes and Manin. |
