Notes for SIAM Minisymposium talk on 1/5/05
Projects in a Large Lecture Format
Differential Equations Course
Paul Blanchard
In Atlanta, I talked about my experiences using projects in
my ordinary differential equations courses.
-
For what it's worth (which is not much),
here is a
pdf file of some of the slides that I showed.
-
I do not want to post the checksheets that I showed during
the talk, but I would be happy to send them to you in both
TeX and pdf formats. Email me at
.
-
I will not distribute the selected student comments that I
discussed during the talk.
-
I discussed the cantilever beam projects. Project 1 is fine,
but Project 2 could use a little work.
-
If I had had more time, I would have discussed the
very successful Tacoma Narrows Bridge projects:
-
With even more time, I would have mentioned the pendulum
projects. The first project worked well, but the second
project was too complicated for students at this level.
