Once you have finished writing or editing your file, you will
want to save it and quit Emacs. To do this, type C-x C-c
(Hold down the Control key while typing the letters
x and c). Emacs will ask you if you want to save
the current buffer to the filename you specified when you started
Emacs. If you respond with a y, Emacs does so and returns
you to the UNIX shell prompt. If you respond with an n,
Emacs notifies you that the current buffer has been modified, then
asks you if you really want to exit. Typing yes now will
discard all of your edits in this session, and will save them in
a file called #<filename>#. Typing
no will return you back into the text window to continue editing.
Note: Emacs (and other programs) is suspended with the
C-z command. It is important to remember that you have
not quit Emacs by using this command even though you get
the UNIX prompt by using the command. You must return to Emacs and
use C-x C-c to quit emacs. To return to a suspended Emacs
session, type fg (which stands for foreground) at the
UNIX prompt.
