This is a short introduction to the text editor of choice on the
Math Department's UNIX machine. Emacs is used to create and edit
text files and to read and send electronic mail. For a listing of
useful commands used in Emacs, see Appendix A and for references
to getting more information on Emacs, see the Bibliography at the
end of this document.
