- Exercise #1: The following is a "Quicktime" movie of the flight
of a small piece of potatoe. Estimate the maximum height of the potatoe's
path. Make sure you are specific about your assumptions which you make
in your estimation. Is your estimation too large or too small?
Quicktime movie.
(Hint: The exercise requires calculations. You will need to watch the
movie carefully, perhaps with at stop watch.)
The following are extercises that you should definitely do--
what is to be handed in is determined in your Section (B2, B3 or B4):
- Section 3.5(Review): 7-32
- Section 5.4: 2,3,4,21,22
- Section 5.5: 1-53 odds (Practice, practice, practice), 57,58,63,64,65,67
- Section 5.6: 3-23 odds (Can't expect to get fit doing 1 sit up...),
43,44,45
- Section 5.7: 1-10 odd, 17-29 odd (and any others that look hard)
- Section 5.9: 5,6,7,17-19,27,36
- Section 5.10: 1,2,5-31 odd (practice!), 41,42,45,53,54
- Don't overlook the chapter review questions. For the "true-false"
you should be able to explain why the statement is true or false.

cover hydrostatic pressue, biology applications or probability
applications, so pick and choose.
