• Please check this webpage and the syllabus before emailing me with any basic logistical questions.
• As explained in my email on Nov 11, there will now be three possible grading schemes:
  • HW 10%, Best In-class test 35%, Worst In-class test 25%, Final exam 30% (ie the original plan)
  • HW 10%, In-class 1 35%, In-class test 2 10%, Final exam 45%
  • HW 10%, In-class 1 45%, In-class test 2 10%, Final exam 35%.
  For each individual student, I will use whichever grading scheme produces the highest final average. Please see the email for details.
• I will be holding an extra office hour on Thursday, 12/15, from 2:15-3:45pm, for MA225 students only. (Note there will not be office hours on Tuesday, 12/13, or on Thursday, 12/15 from 330-5.)
• The final exam will Saturday, 12/17, from 12:30-2:30pm, in STO B50. (Note this is not our usual lecture room.)

Course Info:

• A .pdf file of the syllabus can be found here.
  
• Textbook: Thomas' Calculus, 13th edition, 2014, ISBN 1323006982, chapters 12-16. To get the custom BU version, with only the multivariable portion of the text, go to mypearsonstore.com and use the code "terriers". You should get a BU discount. If you took MA123 or MA124 at BU, you may already have chapters 12-16 in the book you purchased for that class. The custom BU version mentioned above is for a $30 paperback version that only contains chapters 12-16, not the earlier chapters used in MA123 and MA124.
• HW: the assigned HW problems correspond to those in the textbook. Your lowest two HW grades will be dropped. Consequently, no late or makeup HW will be accepted for any reason.
• My Math Lab (MML): as explained on the syllabus, the use of MyMathLab's online homework system is entirely optional. You must turn in physical HW, based on the problems in the book, in order to receive any HW points. If you would like to use MML additionally, instructions for doing so can be found here. I will put HW assignments there each week that correspond roughly to the graded assignments from the book. You need an account to use MML. If you took MA123 or MA124 at BU you probably already have one. If not, you may need to purchase one. (Again, this is entirely optional.)
• Extra help: to get free help:
  • Come to my or your TF's office hours.
  • Go to the tutoring room, MCS B24, to get help from a graduate student. The full schedule is here.

For general information, please see the syllabus. Please note the dates of the in-class tests are Thursday October 6 and Thursday November 10. Information will be posted here, at least one week in advance, regarding which sections each in-class test will cover. The final exam will be cumulative and held on Saturday December 17 from 12:30-2:30pm, as determined by BU's final exam table.
